Artist, graphic-designer, publisher and general son of a gun Marok aka Thomas Marecki sure is no stranger to giving chronographs a contemporary makeover, but surprisingly the GD-120 for G-Shock marks his long-overdue debut for the Japanese watchmakers, which is equally citing pop art’s heydays and dazzle camouflage.

"How many original graffiti artists do you know who run an independent magazine for more than 20 years and stay true to their ideals throughout? Berlin based MAROK truly is one of a kind – both in his artistic work and in his creative vision for Lodown Magazine. Commemorating the 35th anniversary of the tough brand, the creative mastermind designed a new G-SHOCK style in a unique colorway.

From the very beginnings of his graffiti career and his endeavours in the streetwear universe, Marok has been heavily influenced by skateboarding and its aesthetics. Staying true to these roots, the Berlin born artist created a colorway that resemble late 80s, early 90s color-schemes. Bold contrast and sharp colorblocking creates a distinctive look, that cater both to kids of the 90s and to nowadays trends.

Executed with the same state of mind that drives Marok’s brain-child Lodown Magazine, the new G-SHOCK x MAROK collab model is reminiscing the glory days of skateboarding and early beginnings of contemporary streetwear. With colors that could easily be part of a 1993 streetwear catalogue, and colorblocking that is in line with today’s street fashion looks, Marok bridged the decades to achieve a timeless statement for the anniversary.

The Collab model is based on the G-SHOCK GD-120, one of the most popular styles of the brand. The black and white case and the dial are accented with gaudy pink lighting and details. The back of the case mentions “NO COMPLY”, analogous to the recent European NO COMPLY campaign by G-SHOCK. And, with NO COMPLY being a legendary old-school skateboard trick, the reference doubles up in its significance and sums up the collab between two real legends: Marok as one of Berlin’s longest standing urban entrepreneurs and G-SHOCK as a deeply rooted part of Hip Hop and streetwear style throughout more than 30 years."
